Styling Woven Baskets in Your Closet and Home

I received my first hand-woven basket from Ten Thousand Villages over a year ago, and it’s still one of my favorite home decor pieces to date. When Ten Thousand Villages asked to partner with me recently, I knew immediately that I had to share about their incredible array of hand-woven baskets made all around the world!

Woven baskets are showing up as a major trend right now- but I’m hoping it will stick around for a while! From purses to storage to plant-holders, baskets are the perfect way to add texture and interest into your closet and home!

Baskets as an Accessory

While it might feel odd at first to use a basket as an accessory, think of it as a tote bag or backpack. It may be useful to carry a basket to an event where you will need extra storage, such as the farmer’s market! The Seagrass Handled Basket from Ten Thousand Villages pictured here is perfect for this, since it’s lightweight, bendable, and not too bulky! It’s ethically made in Vietnam, and is only $19 when you use the code “STYLEMEFAIR25” at checkout!

“Basket bags” are also becoming a trend that I’ve jumped on board with! I found a small one at Goodwill for $10, and it’s one of my most convenient bags since it sits upright and fits everything I need due to it’s boxy shape.

Baskets as Home Decor

As I mentioned above, baskets are the perfect way to disguise items you may otherwise want to hide. Use them to store toilet paper, blankets, pillows, plants, toys, shoes, slippers, dirty laundry… and maybe even a puppy? You get the idea.

My husband and I live in a small one bedroom apartment, so I am very intentional with my decor pieces. I use the Essential Companion Tote on our dresser, and it’s one of my favorite items! It’s the perfect spot to hide random clutter when I don’t have time to deal with it and guests are coming over (I’m not the only one that has a designated spot for this, right?).

Ten Thousand Villages is 100% Fair Trade, and their products are always reasonably priced! Their products come from nonprofits and skilled artisans. Your purchase will not only last years, but will always support a good cause! Whether you need a farmer’s market tote, a place to hide your slippers, or a gift for a friend, you can’t go wrong with one of Ten Thousand Villages beautiful hand-crafted baskets!
