Ethical Nisolo Paloma Mule

Beyond Fair Trade Wages

Nisolo’s vision is “To push the fashion industry in a more sustainable direction--where success is based on more than just offering the cheapest price--a direction that not only values exceptional design, but the producer and the planet just as much as the end consumer.” Nisolo’s products are designed with versatility in mind, intended to go with each and every outfit, transitioning in and out of seasons with ease. Their items are ethically made, which means their workers receive “beyond fair trade wages”, making an average of 27% higher than fair trade wage requirements.

Most of Nisolo’s handcrafted shoes come from a factory in Trujillo, Peru; the shoe making capital of the world! Unfortunately, most business done in Trujillo for traditional retailers is unethical, with no paper trail as business is conducted “under the radar” and without contract. Nisolo ensures that all it’s shoe-makers are contracted and receive a steady income.

Nisolo Shoes

Nisolo’s shoes are incredibly versatile, and are sure to become a staple in your closet that will last for years. While their leather shoes can be pricey, they are 100% worth it. As an ethical influencer who partners with many brands, I am often gifted items in return for a review of the product. I purchased my first pair of Nisolo boots on my own dime, because I knew they were well worth it! I wore them all winter long, and will wear them for years to come! I even wore them for my engagement photos, and they survived hiking through the red rocks of Sedona!

The style Nisolo recently gifted to me was the Paloma Open Toe Mule. I had been eyeing these mules for a long time, and love open toe detail since I can wear them year round here in Arizona! While they are intended for spring and summer, I have been styling them successfully for fall as well. There is a close toed version that may be better suited for those that don’t live in a state of perpetual summer, the Paloma Mule.

ABLE: Local + Global

ABLE local + global

ABLE (formerly FashionABLE) is “a lifestyle brand focused on ending generational poverty through providing economic opportunity for women.” If you are all about feminism, women’s empowerment, and love supporting women in the global economy, this may just be your new favorite brand! Able started out as a small brand selling women’s scarves, and has evolved into a popular clothing brand that sells shoes, clothing, accessories, and purses.

ABLE Jean Jacket Ethical

As ABLE has grown, their goals for complete transparency have grown as well. They just recently made the decision to publish their wages, and released AccountABLE; “a radical and disruptive reporting system that provides unparalleled transparency into the social impact of our employment and manufacturing practices, particularly the impact on women.” While they acknowledge they are not perfect, they see the importance of radical transparency, and want to provide that to their consumers. They hope (as do I), that some day, knowing where your clothes were made will be similar to the right of knowing what’s in our food, it will be expected!

ABLE’s clothes, accessories, shoes, and bags are all of great quality and style! If you’re searching for an ethical retailer that carries on trend pieces, ABLE is your place! My favorite ABLE product was the first ethical purchase I ever made, the hammered circle earrings that I still wear to this day. I’ve tried their sandals, bags, shirts, and now their jean jacket, and there’s not a piece I haven’t loved!
